Burger King say about themselves that “Great Food Comes First”, they must be right as they serve around 11million people every day who believe in this because they sell quality, affordable food. Since opening their doors in 1954 in Jacksonville, Florida, they have grown to become the second-largest hamburger sandwich serving fast food business in the world. They sell everything from their famous Whopper burger to Apple Pie Sticks and King Fish sandwiches, all of which are served in one of their 15,243 stores based in around 100 different countries.

In 1957 Burger King came up with the quarter pounder Whopper burger as a way to have something different from their rivals. This product has become almost a synonym on the Burger Name, everyone has heard of both Burger King and the Whopper. At the end of the 70’s they started to add different fillings to their sandwiches so as to have a bigger range than just hamburgers. These new Specialty Sandwiches were designed to try and catch a new demographic of people that were emerging, those that wanted a more high-quality sandwich.

In the 90’s in order to compete with Wendy’s they brought out set price options. This value meal tiered system had three prices, 99¢, US$1.99 and $2.99. This idea was retired at the end of the 90’s, although they still had a value section to their menu, where you can buy anything from a burger to fries.

Since 2010, Burger King has again been reformulating their menu, in part because the company had been bought over by the Brazilian company 3G Capital. They now reformulated some old favourites and added some new products to try and bring females into their restaurants after having a very male menu for a while.

As with all the fast food companies, people have attacked Burger King over the fact that although their meals are cheap, they are large in size and quantity. This means that it is quite easy to fill yourself up on a meal that may not be nutritionally good for you. Therefore, it is worth knowing the nutritional value of Burger King meals so as to know what you can and cannot eat and enjoy.
