How To Prepare The Cabbage Soup for diet?
The main ingredients you need in order to prepare the soup are as follows:
- 1 green pepper
- 1 can of tomatoes (diced)
- 6 celery stalks
- 1 chopped onion, preferably a large one
- 1-2 bouillon cubes (if desired)
- 1 head cabbage. A nice, big green one.
- Approximately 48 ounces of V-8 Juice (go low on sodium)
- 4 cups of water
- 1 teaspoon of olive oil (JUST one. Do not add too much)
- 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
Method of preparation of cabbage soup
Take a cooking pot and putting some olive oil in that let it heat up. While that’s heating up, in the meantime, take all the vegetables that you have and chop them into bite-sized pieces. Once you’ve done that, put it in the same pot, and chopping the onions and sauté them. After adding pepper and celery, sauté them for a bit longer, and then add the v-8 Juice first, and then finally add the water.
Let the entire thing come to a boil and then let it simmer until all the vegetables seem to be tender. Taking the cabbage shred it and add it to the cooking pot, allowing the soup to cook for another 15 minutes.
Tip: If you add cabbage at the end of the soup- cooking, it would preserve a certain amount of its nutritional value and also saves your nose from that stinky smell!
The Cabbage Soup Diet Plan
The toughest part of the whole thing is to follow the diet religiously for 7 days. Having the soup everyday is obvious, but apart from that, you have to follow a diet regime of having various kinds of foods along with it each day. Following is the 7-day diet plan that you must follow:
The first day consists of fruits, fruits, and more fruits. All EXCEPT for bananas. If you don’t feel like having soup, have fruits, and vice-versa. Also, have a lot of water throughout the day.
On the second day, you can include as many vegetables as you can. Avoid corn and peas; and prefer having green vegetables. For dinner, you may have a big but a baked potato that should be boiled.
The third includes all the fruits and vegetables of day 1 and day 2 except for bananas. Also, on the third day, you are not allowed to have potato.
Finally the day arrives when you can eat bananas! Along with that, you can also have skimmed milk as much as you wish to. And of course, have as much soup as and when you feel like.
On the fifth day, you can have a piece of chicken or beef that would be up to 10 or 20 ounces. In case you’re vegetarian, you can replace it with something that has the equal amount of protein. Also, you can have five to six tomatoes. However, you cannot have ketchup and consider it to be tomatoes. In order to eliminate uric acid from the body, you must drink a lot of water throughout the day.
Day 6 is all for proteins! Eat as many proteins as you can, vegetables, and soup to your fill and as much as you wish the entire day. However, kindly note that you cannot have baked potatoes that day.
On the last day of the diet, have juices, fruits and rice as much as you wish to. The juice must be unsweetened juice, and the rice must be brown rice only. Do not have starchy and sugary foods. Also, have soup as and when you feel like.
In this Cabbage Soup Diet, don’t just sit at home thinking that you will lose weight just by controlling your diet and plonking yourself in front of the television screens and just having the soup, hoping for a miracle. Alternatively, don’t stress yourself out by involving in strenuous workouts. Do something light, but effective, such as yoga, swimming, or a brisk walk. Remember, though, to not over-do anything.
Following are some of the things you must avoid while following the diet:
- Do not add salt or sugar in the recipe. Also, don’t even add any substitutes of those, such as rock salt, or sugar free.
- Do not add extra items such as extra tomatoes or carrots, as substances such as carrots have a certain amount of sugar due to which the calories may not reduce much as they’re supposed to.
- Always let the ingredients and measurements be the same. Don’t just add or subtract items as per your wish.
- Don’t just have tea and coffee with your favourite cream and two spoons of sugar. You can have tea and coffee, but without cream and sugar. Also, avoid adding milk to your tea and coffee.
- Don’t starve yourself during the diet. Eat whenever you feel hungry.
- Don’t skip or switch days. Follow the diet in the exact same way.
- Do not have alcohol during the week. As the week would be all about diet and eating healthy, do not pick up your glass of whiskey!
However, following are some of the things you can and must do:
- Have a lot of water. Make it your best friend, and consume it whenever you feel thirsty or fatigued.
- Do make a lot of soup and refrigerate it, as you wouldn’t always have the energy to make soup whenever you feel.
- Do stay indoors, as going out would only tempt you to eat more; a resultant of which could be that either you would eat to your heart’s content, or sulk at the thought of not being able to relish your favorite delicacies.
- Do a bit of exercise each day as it would be more beneficial.

Some health experts says that this is not the type of diet to take for long run. Due to its low carbs and very low nutrients, it won’t have a long- lasting positive impact on the cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart diseases.
One must not let go of the healthy lifestyle that they maintain in this one week of diet, as it would help them a great deal in losing more weight in the future. Post the diet, one must maintain a low salt and low sugar diet.
